University Community Anticipates Arrival of Women’s Flag Football Team

As whispers of a women’s flag football team grow throughout the halls of Neumann University, students are becoming filled with anticipation.

Our Neumann Knights are soon to be taking the turf field, and these young women will be ready to score touchdowns in the Atlantic East Conference at the Division III level.

Neumann is in great spirits after the Knights blowout win against West Chester, 32-0, in the first ever Powder Puff women’s flag football game held on campus on October 13.

After all, this is not just a win like any other but an historic win that has showcased the talents of many female athletes and brought a significant step in gender diversity into the sports world.

As of right now, women’s flag football is not offered as a sport by the university, but it will be offered within the near future.

On June 5, the Atlantic East Conference announced its partnership with the NFL and RCX Sports along with support from the Philadelphia Eagles. The Atlantic East plans on being the first NCAA Conference – Division I, II, and III — to offer varsity female flag football, which is anticipated to make an appearance in the spring of 2025.

“Establishing women’s flag football has been a great honor for us, and I am so excited to provide this opportunity for female athletes around the country,” said Atlantic East Commissioner Jessica Huntley.

Neumann Athletics is still undecided on whether flag football will be a club or varsity sport offered to female athletes, but it is coming.

“The level of play of the flag football team will come with interest from the student body here on campus,” said Director of Campus Recreation Matthew Lawson.

Female athletes who played in the Powder Puff game enjoyed the lifestyle and atmosphere but loved the cause they were playing for.

“Atmosphere was on another level, not only the first flag football game for Neumann but also playing for the Eagles Autism Foundation,” said Neumann Powder Puff player Megan Borie.

Students interested in playing flag football for Neumann University should contact Neumann Recreation.
