From ghouls to goblins, Halloween costumes each and every year have people bringing their A-game whether it be store-bought or homemade. Last year, we saw tons of Barbies and Kens, Super Mario Bros, Wednesday Adams, and Top Gun Maverick-based costumes.
But what will be the hot-ticketed costumes this year?
We still have plenty of Halloween classics of course. You’ll always see a classic Vampire or even a toilet paper Mummy, they’re very easy to find or make. Slasher film-inspired costumes are also a popular choice among any Halloween participant, a Jason here, a Freddy there, or a Ghostface right around the corner!
Released September 6th, the new Beetlejuice sequel aptly named “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” seems to be a likely popular costume this Halloween. Even before this year’s sequel, 1988’s “Beetlejuice” has been a go-to costume for many people celebrating Halloween, be it the titular character’s outfits or Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz. Joining the cast this time around is Jenna Ortega as Astrid Deetz. Ortega of course made her mark last year with her portrayal of Wednesday Adams in the Netflix series “Wednesday.”
Regardless, these costumes are visually distinctive and easy to recreate or find at any costume store this Halloween season as well as a great duo idea!
Another great duo idea is this year’s “Deadpool and Wolverine” which features many different versions of the Canadian superhero duo. Garnering much popularity at both the box office and social media.
Group costumes this year are also a big draw for parties and trick-or-treating, especially with Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire releasing earlier this year.
As many know, the Ghostbusters are normally a group of 4 but their numbers grow depending on the movie so getting a small group to match is a great idea. Amazon is the best place to look for a tan jumpsuit or your custom nametags in the Ghostbusters style. Like the other two, there’s so much potential and popularity found in the long-running series.
I caught up with students Blake and Tory and asked them some questions about last year’s and this year’s Halloween
What were some popular costumes you saw last year?
Blake: I saw a lot of country and cowboys
Tory: Barbie
Will you be dressing up for either Trick or Treating or a Halloween Party?
Blake: I will not be dressing up at all
Tory: Party
What costumes do you think will be popular this year?
Blake: Probably Beetlejuice
Tory: Beetlejuice
So the question now is what could be popular next year for Halloween?
Superman releases next July, reintroducing the man of steel to general audiences could push trick-or-treats and partygoers to suit up as Superman, Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, or any other character that will appear in the movie.
With a new installment of Mortal Kombat releasing in early October, we could see plenty of people young and old dressed as Scorpion or Johnny Cage
