Spooky Season is Here

There are plenty of ways to get into the Halloween spirit this year, both on and off campus.

Just under 20 minutes away, The Bates Motel & Haunted Hayride in Glen Mills is one of the most iconic haunted attractions in the country. Its mix of frights and fun makes it a must for thrill-seekers.

Prefer pumpkins over jump scares? Linvilla Orchards’ Pumpkinland offers a cozy, family-friendly way to celebrate the season with hayrides, corn mazes, and warm apple cider.

Back at Neumann, the Neumann Inspires Film Festival Committee is hosting a special Halloween screening on Wednesday, October 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the Meagher Theater. The free event features the Estonian comedy-horror film Kratt, preceded by Thomas Edison’s silent short Frankenstein.

I spoke with Sarah McDermit, Director of Neumann Productions, who helped organize the screening.

“With new Frankenstein movies coming out, it felt like a great time to revisit the original,” McDermit said. “Kratt fits perfectly alongside it since both stories involve creating something that gets out of control.”

After the screenings, a panel of horror fans will lead an open discussion about the genre. “It’s meant to be fun and casual,” McDermit added. “We just want people to share their thoughts and enjoy watching something they might not normally see.”

Halloween celebrations on campus don’t stop there. On October 31, the Child Development Center will host its annual Halloween parade, where children will walk through campus in costume, a favorite Neumann tradition that brings plenty of smiles.

Whether you’re in it for the scares or the sweets, spooky season at Neumann has something for everyone.
