Club Spotlight: Knightflix

Knightflix, Neumann University’s club for movie lovers and aspiring filmmakers, is making a big push for new members this fall. Whether you’re an actor, aspiring director, or simply a lover of films, this is the club where you can dive into the magic of cinema, both behind and on the screen.

The club is looking for extras, actors, and anyone interested in getting involved with the club’s latest project.

“There are no small parts,” junior member Catie Sands remarked, explaining that all roles are vital in the film making process.

This attitude is what sets Knightflix apart from the typical class environment. Students can explore their passions without the pressure of grades or assignments.

The club met for a screening of the classic sci-fi horror film Alien, with pizza and snacks provided. They plan on hosting more screenings on campus, as a way to recruit new members.

The fun doesn’t stop there. Knightflix is gearing up to produce its own horror film, with shooting set for mid-October. It’s a project that promises thrills and chills, and an opportunity for students to act, direct, or help behind the scenes.

According to faculty advisor Kerry Hustwit, the club has seen fluctuating membership since its inception in 2019, but this year has been a standout.

“Participation depends on turnout, it waxes and wanes, but this year has been amazing so far,” Hustwit said. She loves the informal environment that the club provides, where students can experiment and collaborate outside the classroom.

“It’s great watching students make friends while exploring exciting new projects,” said Hustwit.

For third-year Maggie Ensell, the sense of community is the best part. “Forget Disney World, this is the most magical place on Earth,” she said.

Ensell loves the positive energy the group brings, “We all come together to discuss and watch films and just have a great time. I love getting to know people and hearing about their different film backgrounds.” she said.

Although Ensell is only in her first year with Knightflix, she is excited to deepen her knowledge of filmmaking.

“I’ve taken classes like Video Production and Film Analysis, and I’m looking forward to applying that knowledge in the club’s projects,” said Ensell.

With its upcoming projects and screenings, Knightflix is the place for movie fans and aspiring filmmakers to get together, learn, and create something truly special.
