Club Spotlight: Boogie Knights

Looking for a fun, interactive way to meet new friends, stay fit and learn a new skill? Boogie Knights has got you covered!

Established in the late 2010’s, Boogie Knights is a club for students who might be interested in dance but have little to no experience. “The goal of Boogie Knights is for students with no experience to come and enjoy themselves, make new friends, and exercise in a fun way,” said Erin Donovan, Club Secretary.

This year, Boogie Knights is made up of four Neumann students with varying dance backgrounds. Rachel Meehan, Erin Donovan, Casandra Nguyen, and Lauren Eagle meet twice a week to develop their dance skills and, in the process, bond as a team.

“The friendships are definitely the best thing to come out of it,” said Donovan.

Rachel Meehan, a senior English major, serves as the club’s president, and she’s been dancing since she was three years old. Some of her favorite memories with Boogie Knights have been getting to choreograph dances, learn new skills, and tap into her creative side.

“Boogie Knights allowed me to meet new friends, which was helpful, especially because I entered college during the COVID-19 pandemic,” stated Meehan.

The Boogie Knights engage in community service initiatives as well. Earlier this year, the club partnered with the Neumann Knights for Education for a “Breakfast with Santa” event. Club members taught young children a short dance, and sophomore Lauren Eagle, who is also a highly trained ballet dancer, performed a solo.

“It was a neat experience. The kids got to learn a dance, meet a ballerina, and take pictures with Santa,” said Meehan.

On April 13 at 7pm in the Meagher Theater (located in Bruder), the Boogie Knights will be showcasing their hard work in a Broadway-themed recital. Club members have prepared 10 dances, all in different styles—contemporary, jazz and ballet, just to name a few.

With just four total members, three of them being seniors, the Boogie Knights might not operate in the coming semesters. If any students are interested in continuing the club, please reach out to Rachel Meehan or Erin Donovan!
