Neumann Knights: Changing of the Seasons

As the leaves fall, and the weather continues to get colder and colder, Neumann University enters a new season. Winter sports have arrived on and off campus as the women’s and men’s basketball and hockey teams open their 23-24 seasons. Here is a recap of winter sports all the way to Thanksgiving break.

Men’s Basketball

The men’s basketball team has had a pretty even start to its season with a current record of 2-3. But don’t shrug the team off just yet as they went 21-8 last season. Certainly, a difficult legacy to live up to, but still a great achievement to strive for.

  • Loss, 67-97, Franklin and Marshall College, Away, 11/9
  • Loss, 51-52, Manhattanville College, Away, 11/12
  • Win, 109-81, Vermont State University Lyndon, Away, 11/18
  • Loss, 65-83, Hamilton College, Away, 11/19
  • Win, 80-56, University of Valley Forge, Home, 11/27

Women’s Basketball

The women started their season on a positive note with a 4-2 record and a .667 percentage, a solid start to a hopefully promising season. The team went 13-14 overall last year, so a big opportunity to improve from last year’s record is apparent. The team has six more games before the end of the semester with two of them being at home.

  • Win, 69-49, Lebanon Valley College, Home, 11/8
  • Win, 75-51, Penn State Harrisburg, Away, 11/11
  • Win, 64-56, Lancaster Bible College, Away, 11/12
  • Loss, 43-65, Ursinus College, Home, 11/15
  • Win, 73-43, Rosemont College, Away, 11/17
  • Loss, 63-71, Widener University, Away, 11/21

Men’s Ice Hockey

Ice hockey has been the talk of the town recently as Neumann University just announced the building of a new on campus ice hockey rink. That said, let us check in on the men’s ice hockey team. The team is starting out a bit slow with a record of 3-5-0 and a .375 percentage. The team has been going since late October; however, the team is only about a third of the way into their season giving them plenty of time to catch back up.

  • Loss, 1-4, SUNY Geneseo, Home, 10/27
  • Loss, 3-6, Alvernia University, Away, 11/3
  • Loss, 2-7, Alvernia University, Home, 11/4
  • Win, 7-5, Kings College, Away, 11/10
  • Loss, 1-3, Kings College, Away, 11/11
  • Win, 6-2, Arcadia University, Away, 11/14
  • Loss, 2-3, Chatham University, Home, 11/17
  • Win, 3-2, Chatham University, Home, 11/18

Women’s Ice Hockey

Like the men’s hockey team, the women’s ice hockey team has also been playing since late October and already have 9 games under their belt. The team is currently 4-4-1 with a .519 percentage. Pretty evenly split so far, but the team still has plenty of time to pull ahead for a solid positive record this season.

  • Loss, 2-4, Buffalo State, Away, 10/27
  • Win, 3-2 OT, Buffalo State, Away, 10/28
  • Loss, 1-3, Arcadia University, Home, 11/3
  • Loss, 0-5, Arcadia University, Away, 11/4
  • Win, 8-3, Albertus Magnus College, Home, 11/7
  • Win, 5-0, Hilbert College, Home, 11/10
  • Win, 5-1, Hilbert College, Home, 11/11
  • Loss, 0-4, Alvernia University, Home, 11/17
  • Tie, 3-3 OT (SO: W, 2-0), Alvernia University, Away, 11/18

Women’s Volleyball

The women’s volleyball team had a bit of a late conference run with two games remaining after their first-round bye. Their final game was against Marymount University for the Atlantic East Conference title. The team was defeated but still went home with a final record of 18-11 and a .621 percentage.

  • Win, 3-1, Gwynedd Mercy University, Home, 11/9, Atlantic East Conference Semifinals
  • Loss, 0-3, Marymount University, Away, 11/11, Atlantic East Conference Finals
