Men’s Soccer Coaches Earn “Staff of the Year” Accolade

From the moment Erik Temple stepped onto the pitch as Neumann University’s newest head coach of the men’s soccer team, he started to lay the groundwork for unprecedented success.

He led the Knights to an Atlantic East Conference Championship, but also elevated the whole coaching staff to the pinnacle of recognition as the Conference’s Coaching Staff of the Year.

Temple made an electrifying impact in his first year as manager of this soccer club alongside assistant coaches Rod Bradbury, Daniel Lewis, and Daniel Rival.

Under Temple’s leadership, the team made the Atlantic East Conference Championship, but fell short to University of Mary Washington in the NCAAs by a final score of 3-1.

Temple’s coaching strategy centers on emphasizing both technical precision and mental acuity throughout the game on the pitch.

His coaching philosophy emphasizes adaptability, allowing his team to adjust and thrive in different game situations, making him a versatile as well-rounded coach in the Atlantic East Conference.

“Establishing a strong culture with high standards is crucial, making the daily commitment to hard work. I always emphasize to the team the importance of living in the present moment and letting go of mistakes and focusing on what’s ahead. It’s about encouraging players to move past errors swiftly and stay focused on the next opportunity,” said Temple.

In his inaugural year as the Knights’ head coach, Temple achieved an impressive conference record, concluding the regular season with a remarkable 4-0-2 standing. Additionally, he secured victories against Marymount and Cabrini in the conference tournament.

“Every game holds its significance, but once we step into conference play, they become do-or-die matchups. Throughout the season, we’ve thrived when our backs were pushed against the wall, showcasing our best. In conference games, that ‘every game matters’ shapes each match into a pivotal moment,” said Temple.

From 2014 to 2020, Temple held the roles of assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Knights under Kevin Sloan and Tim Hollenback. Neumann celebrated two conference titles, secured one NCAA bid, and participated in two ECAC Tournaments during his tenure.

Following his time at his alma mater, Neumann University, Temple played a pivotal role in establishing the Sporting Delaware Soccer Club in Wilmington, Delaware. As the College Pathway Director, Temple guided 85 players to secure commitments to play at the college level. In the beginning of his coaching career, he served as the coach for the U17 (2006) and U19 (2005) ECNL Boys Teams.

During his collegiate years playing men’s soccer at York College of Pennsylvania from 2006 to 2009, Temple left an indelible mark on the field, contributing to three conference championships and four appearances in the NCAA Division 3 tournament. His leadership propelled the team to the Elite 8 twice, solidifying his legacy within the men’s soccer program at York College.
