One fridge to a dorm policy creates issues

On-campus students at Neumann have concerns about the policy of one fridge to a dorm room.

In October, an unfortunate incident happened where a student and her friend got into an argument over a refrigerator. The disagreement ended their friendship.

The fridge owner made her roommate take out all of her groceries and put them into someone else’s fridge. The items that couldn’t fit had to be thrown away.

“It’s upsetting to me that I didn’t have my fridge up here and that I couldn’t bring it up either.

Every time I want to go get something out of the fridge, I have to leave the comfort of my room to do so,” claimed the student who wants to stay anonymous.

“Sometimes it’s annoying that I have to share a fridge because it’s so small and barely has enough room for both of our groceries,” claims another student who also wishes to stay anonymous.

Director of Housing Residence Chadwick Johnson explained that this policy exists is because of power outages last semester.

“Last year there was an increased number of power outages as a direct result of students having more than one mini fridge per side. This summer we started emailing students notifying them that they are only allowed one mini fridge per side to decrease the number of power outages,” said Johnson.

“My old school provided a fridge and microwave for each room, which I think would solve a lot of issues. Because then one person wouldn’t have to pay for a fridge on their own while the roommate uses it freely,” said sophomore Megan Foody.
