Campus on Shuffle

Whether it’s a walk across campus, a long study session in the library, or a post-class drive home, there’s one thing most college students can’t live without: music.

With so many genres, moods, and playlists to choose from, Neumann students are tuning into their own unique soundtracks this semester, and they’ve got some great picks.

According to Google, in 2025, people are vibing to a mix of genres like R&B/Hip-Hop, Hyperpop, and Afrobeats.

The charts are ruled by big names such as Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, Tate McRae, Ed Sheeran, Sabrina Carpenter, Benson Boone, Lady Gaga, and Bruno Mars. And the most listened-to song of the year?

“Ordinary” by Alex Warren, a summer anthem that took the Billboard Hot 100 by storm.

But Neumann’s playlist tells a slightly different story, it is one that’s just as catchy.

Sophomore Maddi Katchuk is keeping things calm this semester with her favorite genres: country and folk.

“Artists like Zach Bryan, The Lumineers, and Noah Kahan are always in my rotation,” Katchuk said.

Her current top song? “The Cave” by Mumford & Sons. It’s a timeless indie-folk classic that perfectly fits the cozy fall vibes on campus.

Senior Angelina Sannicandro takes a more spontaneous approach to her music.

“I listen to all kinds of music it depends on what I’m in the mood for that day!” Sannicandro said.

Whether she’s heading to class or hanging out with friends, her playlist is always changing. But when it’s time to hit the books, she turns down the tempo.

“When I study, I like to listen to country music because it isn’t the kind of music that would distract me,” Sannicandro said.

Senior Nicole Anderson is all about balance when it comes to her playlists.

“Recently, I have been listening to pop music. But while I study, I like to listen to any songs by Zach Bryan,” Anderson said.

It seems the country star has found a loyal following among Neumann students who appreciate his heartfelt lyrics and easy-going sound.

It’s clear that while pop and hip-hop may be dominating the global charts, Neumann students are gravitating toward music that keeps them grounded and maybe a little deep in thought.

There’s something about folk strings, soulful vocals, and acoustic guitars that makes studying, relaxing, or even walking between classes just a bit easier.

Still, there’s room for variety. From the emotional storytelling of Zach Bryan to the indie charm of Mumford & Sons, students at Neumann have playlists that match their personalities and moods.

Whether you’re the type to queue up a moody ballad or blast a chart, there’s no wrong answer when it comes to what’s in your headphones.

So next time you’re walking through campus and see a fellow Knight with earbuds in, don’t be surprised if they’re lost in a world of strumming guitars, poetic lyrics, or even a little pop magic.

Because at Neumann, the soundtrack of student life is as diverse and dynamic as the students themselves.

One thing’s for sure: whatever is playing, it’s setting the perfect tone for another semester full of late-night study sessions, unforgettable memories, and plenty of good vibes.

So go ahead, hit play. Your Neumann playlist awaits.
