Neumann Tackles Eating Disorders

National Eating Disorder Week, February 24-March 2 this year, is not well known, but eating disorders are serious problems. According to the National Eating Disorders Association, one person dies every 52 minutes because of these afflictions and nine percent of Americans will suffer.

That is why Neumann University held an event in the cafeteria on February 25th led by Campus Nutritionist Lin Roberts. Participating students received information (and prizes) in an effort to help them make better choices.

“They offer a variety of menu options, that can be viewed on the everyday app, and students can view what’s available and the nutritional information of what’s available,” said Roberts, who added this might be of particular interest to student athletes.

When asked about dining hall options senior, Madison Wright said, “They give us a lot of options and some are nutritious, however, it’s up to students on what they want to get.”

Overall, the resources are here for students, if need be, including the wellness center always being there for those who need it. Although it is a subject that can be a touchy subject for most, it is also important to recognize that there are ways to combat it and receive the adequate help that people need and deserve, especially on a college campus.

Roberts offers meetings with students one-on-one to discuss disorders if students are seeking help and resources and for information is available at www.nationaleatingdisorders.org or you can contact the helpline number which is 800-931-2237.
