2024 VP Debate Highlights Contrasting Visions for America’s Future

On Tuesday, October 1st, a 90-minute Vice Presidential debate for the 2024 election was led by CBS moderators Margaret Brennan and Nora O’Donnell. Many don’t realize the importance of VP debates, because both candidates must be ready to succeed in the role of President in case anything were to happen to President Donald J. Trump or Kamala Harris.

This debate between Ohio Senator JD Vance [R] and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz [D] was consequential, allowing voters to independently analyze and listen to two visions for the future of America.

The two candidates shook hands and the debate began civilly and was policy-focused. Vance was polished, articulate, prepared, sharp, and able to defend President Trump’s policies.

On the other hand, Walz began nervous, confused, and unconfident while jotting notes throughout the debate, nodding and agreeing more with Vance. He did not substantiate Kamala Harris’ policies throughout the discussion.

As the debate went on, Walz became more relaxed alongside Vances’ politeness. While putting policies in perspective Walz agreed with a lot of his comments, nodding often.

Vance is a skilled debater and has done far more news media interviews, answering calmly. In contrast, Walz has done little to no media interviews and has dodged questions. This could hurt him and Kamala Harris.

Vance defended President Trump’s policies on the deterrence of Iran, and how safe we were under his bold leadership, with no wars under his watch.

The debate continued and more questions were focused on hurricane relief and climate change.

Walz argued about Minnesota’s record of farmers investing in solar panels from China and investing overseas, as done in the past 3.5 years.

Vance wants a robust response to victims of Hurricane Helene, wants manufacturing jobs, and wants to unleash clean American energy, all done here in the United States by enforcing President Trump’s economic policy for drilling and energy independence.

The economy was then discussed. Walz emphasized Harris’ housing assistance, small businesses, child tax credits, and price gouging. On the contrary, Vance emphasized President Trump’s plans stating his record of highest take-home pay, low costs, and record low unemployment rates.

The topic that was long awaited was the reproductive rights of women and abortion laws.

Walz commented on the freedom to choose and was asked about his Minnesota bill of killing babies in the 9th month, even execution after birth, while not giving medical treatment. He denied that he signed this bill.

Vance advocates for President Trump’s policy for life, creating more children, fertility treatments, and giving options to our women. President Trump’s stance is exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of a mother. Other issues were highlighted, but these are the main topics.

It is highly encouraged to independently research both candidates’ views on additional topics and read more information before casting your vote.

Walz expressed a vision in terms of opportunity, economy, and freedom of choice. Vance advocated for fracking and clean energy, lower costs, increased public safety, supporting law enforcement, and combating drugs alongside public health issues for a happier, unified, and prosperous American society.

This debate between the two candidates is a crucial moment in the electoral process, allowing them to openly express their views.

The insights shared will help the American people choose aspirations that are most congruent with their vision for the future of our beloved and sacred constitutional democracy.
